The Chamorro Flying Proa Relay Team Blog
Hafa Adai! In August of 2007, an all-Chamorro relay team attempted to swim across the English Channel, in order to raise money for building an authentic Sakman. This blog is a journal written as the team prepared and then traveled to Dover, England to swim the 21 miles from England to France. Published in the Saipan Tribune, it starts with an introductory article written by Tribune Assistant Editor Mark Rebago, and is followed by the journal entries as they're written. The team left for Dover on August 1st 2008 and the swim took place on August 7. Five days later, team-member Tim Cespedes began his attempt at a solo crossing. We hope you'll enjoy reading the journal. Be sure to see the accompanying pictures in the Photo Gallery too.
